TWILIGHT VISITOR, the global geopolitical thriller by author Réal Laplaine, has been described as a cult-classic, comparable to the best of Dan Brown and Jack Higgins.
The story surrounds a man experiencing his mid-life crisis, a bio-engineer who is vacationing in his home town, trying to bring balance back to his life, when he is suddenly faced by a strikingly beautiful woman. She informs him that on the other side of the world, China has just invaded Iran for its oil, and that matters will quickly escalate to a nuclear confrontation; and that he and his research team alone hold the answer to preventing the global debacle which will ensue. The man refuses any of this. When she finally reveals her true nature and her mission on Earth, his world spins deeper out of control, and meanwhile, as predicted, Iran fires a nuclear warhead at Beijing in a final and desperate effort to stave-off the crushing attack, and the world is steeped in horror at the ultimate fate facing them.
Twilight Visitor while being entertaining and fast paced, having also been compared to the pace of a Tom Clancy novel, also spotlights critical issues facing us today; the build-up of nuclear arms, the destruction and pollution of our oceans, and the general sense of fear permeating the world through propaganda machinery designed to split humanity into distinct camps. It is a revealing, contemporary book with a powerful message.
Blogcritics.org had this to say about Twilight Visitor
“Laplaine’s plot is a unique web of political suspense intertwined with humanity’s big questions, such as where we came from, and are we alone in the universe. This well written thriller is also thought provoking as Laplaine shows remarkable research skills only surpassed by amazing writing skills. Readers will be on a rollercoaster from the beginning and will remain glued to the pages until the end of this amazing story, which promises a possibility of a sequel. The characters are impeccably developed, which I found genuine as the dialogue and reactions to circumstances were credible without feeling predictable. In all, there is no doubt Réal Laplaine showcased his writing skills in this book.”
In QUANTUM ASSAULT, the 2nd in the Keeno Crime Thriller Novels, Keeno McCole and his team of Canadian crime fighters take on a sex trafficking ring which is injecting young girls with an experimental nano-virus, one designed to change their anatomy, and then selling them off to clients throughout Canada and the United States. When one fourteen year-old girl escapes their net, Keeno and his team declare war against the traffickers, and when the nano-virus breaks-out and threatens a global pandemic, the stakes become fatal as the chase takes them around the world. A crime thriller to the end.
Twilight Visitor is a geopolitical thriller with a sci-fi twist. When China invades Iran for its oil, it sets off a domino-effect when Iran retaliates with a nuclear weapon fired at Beijing. While the world stands helpless to stop the debacle, one man, Mateus Cordozo, a bioengineer who is vacationing in his home town in Portugal, meets a strange woman, an off-worlder, who informs him that only he can prevent a global disaster from happening. Mateus refuses to accept the veracity of his strange visitor and his own relevance in the approaching apocalypse as the world teeters toward nuclear war.
“The story races along with pace of a Tom Clancy thriller but the depth of the plot is rich in complexities philosophical ideas. Highly recommended for readers who like fast paced thrillers but with an ingenious twist.” (Book-Reviewer.com)

Twilight Visitor by Réal Laplaine begins with Mateus Cordozo, who is soul searching to try to figure out his life, while on his vacation at a beach in Afife, Portugal, his native country. On a windy day in early fall, while he is having some drinks on the beach, a beautiful woman approaches his table, and asks Cordozo if she can join him. Their conversation becomes deep and personal, and Cordozo confesses his disappointment with society in general, and shares his belief as a bioengineer, that the world’s crises are a result of political manipulations.
In the meantime, Iran has rejected China’s request to be their exclusive oil customer, which leads China to initiate an invasion of Iran. Political chaos is on the verge of explosion throughout China, Iran, North Korea, and the US. All the while Cordozo continues his conversation with the mysterious woman who calls herself Serena, over a drink in the beautiful coast of Afife. But who is Serena, and why is she interested in Cordozo? I am not going to give away the story, but will say that I could not put it down!

Book review – TWILIGHT VISITOR – by Reading Corner (Goodreads reader and reviewer)…
“Twilight Visitor was definitely not what I expected, the novel unravelled to become much more than just a story about a possible World War Three between Iran and China. The story centres around Mateus Cordozo, political figures and innocent civilians. The constant switch in perspective offers an interesting insight to everything that was going on from literally every perspective.
The glimpse into the impact the coming disaster has on civilians was my favorite narrative, as I enjoyed the first person view into what was really going on. The background insight into numerous Presidents and Prime Ministers was another gripping narrative as you could sympathise with their struggle to decide what to do. However, I do think there could have been more scenes with Mateus and I think he should have been more involved with the action.
The writing was beautifully constructed with some great lines that were highly-crafted, easily painting an image in my head. I thoroughly enjoyed the prose and it was one of the best elements of the book in my opinion… (more)”
